A LETTER FROM J. CASEY SOWARD,

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends,

Thanks to you, The Cabot continues its role as a community leader in the arts, entertainment, and education, as well as in the preservation and restoration of important historical venues.

Over the past year, we have completed critical capital improvement projects to the theater by installing an elevator and new stage lift, as well as two additional accessible restrooms, completing our ADA requirements and fulfilling our obligation to our patrons and performers to make our facilities accessible to all.

Our live event programming has taken a giant step forward with incredible acts like Elvis Costello, Grace Potter, Graham Nash, and Herbie Hancock playing to sold out audiences. We have continued our 100+ year tradition of presenting a wide variety of documentary and classic films all year long. We produced our first-ever film festival, “Amplifying Voices”, in February.

Our film education program, In Focus, is educating youth on the art of filmmaking, both at The Cabot and in our public schools, regardless of a family's ability to pay for the program, and our monthly Community Conversations series has become a place for our North Shore community to gather and discuss important topics of our time and to highlight the incredible work that individuals and organizations are doing to help others.

Thank you for being part of our story and for helping us continue this very important work!

 Sincerely,

Executive Director

Happy to be a member of The Cabot to support this gem in my hometown. They have brought so much life back into our town and work in collaboration with our community.

The added benefit of early access to tickets was secondary, though love to be able to snatch our favorite orchestra seats!

JOIN THE CONVERSATION AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY

The Cabot hosts Community Conversations, free monthly events that address our community’s collective well-being through education, experiential arts, social connection, and a public forum for important social issues.

Topics such as homelessness among women’s veterans, isolation and mental health, gun control, and racism and workplace equity are some of the conversations we’ve had with our community.

Thank you to Leading Ladies for partnering with us on some of our most riveting conversations.

THE CABOT PARTNERS

THE CABOT PARTNERS

HISTORIC TRADITION. MODERN MISSION.

The Cabot is more than a local treasure – it is an exciting place full of history, charm and architectural grandeur, yet with modern comforts and amenities.

Since 2016, The Cabot has embarked on a multi-year, multi-million dollar renovation to not only restore parts of the theater to its original 1920s grandeur, but to upgrade and modernize all current systems to better enhance the live experience.

We were so excited about the new elevator, we made this fun announcement video - enjoy!

MAKING THE CABOT BEAUTIFUL - INSIDE AND OUT

The last phase of this program improvement project will begin in 2024 with the renovation of The Cabot’s facade that will accentuate the beautiful historic elements that were on display on December 8, 1920, when our historic theater opened to rave reviews.

Energy-efficient windows, a new roof that will allow us to explore solar energy options, a new modern lounge, and are all part of this last phase of the program improvement project.

TELLING THEIR OWN STORIES

The Cabot’s In Focus program for middle school students

On the surface, The Cabot’s In Focus is a filmmaking program for youth ages 10 to 15 years of age. In practice, these hands-on classes offer a deep impact curriculum that creates a critical safe space for students to express and evolve their identities, learn the collaborative nature of success, and find their place in the world.

60 kids have participated in the program in the past year regardless of ability to pay.

It has been especially meaningful to me to witness the extraordinary revitalization of The Cabot after attending movies and performances at the theater since the 1970's.

It's wonderful to see the buzz around Downtown Beverly's streets and restaurants when a big-name artist comes to town. Many of the performances are extraordinary, the economic activity generated to local business is significant, and the Community Conversations program is important!

LET’S GO TO THE MOVIES

It was a great year for movies at The Cabot! Annual events like our Memorial Day screenings of Jaws and the holiday favorite, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, continued to attract enthusiastic audiences. The return of our $1 Summer Movie Series also brought families back to our theater after a 2-year break due to the global pandemic.

Our specialty programming garnered the highest attendance. Evil Dead and Army of Darkness hosted by actor Bruce Campbell, and the annual favorite, Warren Miller ski showcase were the blockbusters of the year.

WE ARE A LEADER IN GREENING LIVE EVENTS

Live events can create large quantities of waste—from thousands of plastic cups and water bottles, to pallets of cardboard and hours of inefficient energy use. In 2019, The Cabot took the pledge to conserve resources and reduce the ecological footprint of the Cabot.

✔️ ELIMINATED SINGLE-USE PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES

— we now serve all of our beverages, including filtered water, in compostable cups.

1920 CLUB: A LEGACY SOCIETY

All You Need is Love 2020.jpg

Since 1920, The Cabot has been a gathering place for our community. With an irreplaceable civic treasure at risk, a non-profit organization was formed in 2014 to save a piece of our shared history.

Today, The Cabot is a rare survivor; an exciting place full of history, charm and architectural grandeur, yet modernized to keep pace with audiences of today.

Join the 1920 Club by including us in your estate planning and ensure that The Cabot lives on for future generations. As a member of the 1920 Club, you will be listed on our website, annual report, and in our lobby.
